MODEL
UNITED
NATIONS

Model United Nations (MUN) is a simulation, kind of like an activity you do in class. In MUN we represent diverse interests by pretending to be delegates from countries across the world.

CHIPMUN

ChipMUN is the name of Central Michigan Univeristy's Model United Nations conference. We are a single day high school conference completely run by CMU students!

FIRE UP!

Don't be alarmed if you hear this on campus. Fire Up is Central Michigan Universities Slogan. We hope that by the end of the day you are fired up about diplomacy as much as we are!

DELEGATE

This is your fancy new title for the day of the conference. In Model UN we refer to ourselves as the delegate from [country assignment] and avoid using personal pronouns in formal session.

Your chair will begin formal session at the beginning of the day. During formal session you should be respectful of speakers and stay off your electronic devices.

INFORMAL
SESSION

During formal session a delegate may call for an informal session. This is when you can get up and move across the room and have open dialogue. Informal session is good time for resolution writing and compromising. You may use your electronics during this time.

Our staff provides a Background Guide with an outline of what the topics for the committees are. Delegates should review the B.G. before beginning country research.

RESOLUTION

During committee you will work alongside fellow delegates to create resolutions. These resolutions should focus on the topics of the committees. At the end of the day you will vote whether to pass them or not.
