Human trafficking remains a global issue, and increasing numbers of migrants worldwide have resulted in a larger population of people vulnerable to trafficking.

Iraq ordered the invasion of Kuwait in August 1990. This action was alarming to other nations within the region. They called upon the United States to intervene by bringing the conflict to the UN Security Council demanding that Iraq withdraw from Kuwait in January 1991.
